An internal drainage system is better for your home if you don't have a storm drain. No external configuration is required for this type. All you have to do is hammer the basement to create a trench, then install the pipe and enclose it. Overall, this is a much easier way to set up your system and more cost effective.
The only downside to internal gutters is that they don't necessarily help water seep through the walls of the foundation. They keep the basement slab dry and reduce moisture in the basement, but the water usually comes from the soil around the house. However, with some landscaping, you can limit the amount of water seeping in in this way. Make sure your yard is away from your home and don't let plant roots touch the walls of your basement foundation.
